Our club is a laser-class fleet-based organization that is basically run with our own pocket money and weekend time. With this form, members who love sailing and have a lifestyle of sports can spend decades in club life, from students to working adults and, more recently, members whose motto is to be active throughout their lives after retirement. A style of enjoyment has been formed. Of course, because it operates with a small membership fee, there is no hope for a good harbor facility, a large rescue boat, etc. But isn't this the Sustainability sustainable style?
There have been events in the past that symbolize that. It was a direct hit of Typhoon No. 19 in 1991 and Typhoon No. 18 in 1999. Both typhoons devastated the clubhouse and most of the lasers on land broke apart. I'm sure the Cape House website also has a lot of footage of the tragedy at the time. Immediately after the attack, I saw my wife and the site and comforted myself, saying, "This is the end. Well, I enjoyed sailing enough ...". Members began to gather there with a shovel, and restoration work began without a command from anyone, and fleets from other prefectures also donated equipment and raised funds for reconstruction, and a few months later. Was restored. From this experience, I learned that the wonderfulness of fellow sailing lovers and the feelings of the members who want to continue sailing generate great power. It is truly “sustainable”.
